The town of Alvor is excellently placed being built on a hillside leading down to the protected harbour on the estuary of the Ria Alvor, the town quay has been modernised and now has a beautiful promenade with modern waterside bars were you can enjoy a coffee, beer, sangria or even a full meal overlooking the many local boats
Alvor is regarded by most people to be a quaint fishing village, but take a closer look, you will find terrific night life, with a great many bars including Irish bars, fantastic restaurants, and comfortable Apartments. Down by the quay you can find some of the best Fresh Fish Restaurants in the Algarve.
Alvor has around 200 restaurants and bars, has possibly the highest concentration of places to eat in the Algarve, you can try anything from beautifully cooked fresh fish, grilled sardines served with home made bread or boiled potatoes being a specialty to chicken piri-piri, and lots of other traditional Portuguese dishes.
Alvor is also well known for its fantastic Golf courses but if you just want to relax, grab your towel and suntan lotion, and head off to the Beach. Praia da Alvor is almost 3 miles long with sandy dunes and always has space even in the height of the season.
Alvor is one of the Algarve’s most popular destinations. The village has succeeded in retaining it’s essence along with offering all that you could want for a superb holiday. The warren of narrow winding streets offers a huge selection restaurants, cafés, bars and shops yet in the evening you can see the locals, sitting in their doorways watching the tourists enjoy their village.
